Carbon Masters were engaged by Edinburgh Napier University towards the end of 2011 to provide the following deliverables:
Edinburgh Napier University demonstrated its ability to measure, manage, reduce and report its GHG emissions. Carbon Masters worked with the University to maximise media coverage around the certification of the Standard. These efforts culminated in an awards ceremony at the launch of the Association of Carbon Professionals where the Scottish Minister for Climate Change and Environment, MSP Stewart Stevenson, presented key members of the University’s staff with a certificate of achievement.
The University used Carbon Guru to calculate its carbon emissions in line with the GHG Protocol. Historical carbon emissions stretching back to September 2006 and backed up by evidence, are now accessible at https://carbonmasters.ourimpacts.com. The site allows multiple users to log-in and analyse data and create reports.
The process follows best practice with results being expressed in CO2-equivalent (CO2e), which accounts for all GHGs and not only CO2. Prior to the results being finalised, a Carbon Masters Analyst carried out a Quality Assurance step to help remove any inaccuracies in the data. To maximise transparency, a full breakdown of GHGs and how they were calculated can also be viewed including references for the relevant emissions factors.
Three years worth of the University’s GHG emissions data was independently verified by external 3rd-party auditors in line with the International Standard ‘Specification with guidance for the validation and verification of greenhouse gas assertions’ (ISO 14064 – part 3).
Carbon Masters is a carbon management consultancy which helps organisations in the public and private sector to measure, manage, reduce and report their carbon emissions.
