East Dunbartonshire Council was the first local authority in the UK to sign up for the Carbon Masters Package – the package includes:

1. Application to the Carbon Masters Standard – our Environment Agency accredited carbon emission reduction and certification scheme.

2. Use of Carbon Guru for Organisatins – our software solution which assists organisational carbon footprinting

3. Independent verification of 3 years carbon footprint data in line with ISO14064 (3)– which is carried out by independent 3^rd party auditors from Grontmij (a leading environmental and engineering consultancy)

What We Did

Carbon Masters providing a mobilisation workshop to start the project – which involved providing training on carbon footprinting, data collection and using the Carbon Guru software. We worked closely with East Dunbartonshire Council to assist them in gathering three years of emissions data for their application to the Carbon Masters Standard. Carbon Masters analysts entered this data onto the Carbon Guru software platform to save the council time and documents such as energy bills were provided and uploaded to ensure there was a clear and transparent record of how emissions had been calculated. East Dunbartonshire went through a rigorous assessment process carried out by Grontmij, which involved assessing the 3 years of the council’s footprint data. At the end of the project, we provided a recommendations report to help East Dunbartonshire Council improve its carbon management practices ongoing.

Results

East Dunbartonshire Council were awarded the Carbon Masters Standard in July 2012 and an awards ceremony was held later that year with representatives from the Council to celebrate their achievement.
