Carbon Masters two founding partners bring a range of complementary skills and capabilities, youthful enthusiasm and experience, and an understanding of both the developing and developed worlds. Passion, global insight, and technical mastery are the values they aspire to bring to the company. Carbon Masters was established in 2009 and has since worked with a wide range of organisations in both the public and private sector to help them take steps to reduce their carbon emissions. The company now has offices in Edinburgh (UK), Bangalore (India) and Quito (Ecuador) and plans for a Carbon Masters USA are also on the horizon.
After successful sales, marketing and consulting careers with Procter & Gamble, Price Waterhouse Coopers and IBM, which included international assignments in Turkey and Germany, Kevin took up the cause of climate change in 2006. He returned to University of Edinburgh in 2008 to do postgraduate studies in Carbon Management where he carried out research on ICT and climate change including primary research on the use of virtual world technologies to dematerialise business travel emissions. On graduating he co-founded Carbon Masters. Since January 2010, Kevin has been advising the European Commission (EC) in Brussels as an independent expert, working with the ICT Industry to establish a common methodology for measuring the embedded energy and carbon in ICT goods networks and services. He currently represents the EC on the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Study group 5 and contributes to this groups work on establishing new ICT standards based on IS0 14040 and 14044. He is also a member of the Steering group of a joint initiative between the Carbon Trust and GeSi (Global e sustainability Initiative) which is developing ICT guidance to measure the carbon footprint of ICT goods networks and services based on the emerging WRI /WBSCD Scope 3 standards. Kevin is a native of London but now resides in Edinburgh.
Som has been working in the area of climate change for last 6 years. In 2008 he moved to Scotland for his Masters in Carbon Management at the University of Edinburgh. While doing his Masters he worked on feasibility of low carbon technologies for energy sector and an Emissions Performance Standard (EPS) as a credible policy for coal power generating plants with Friends of the Earth and World Development Movement Scotland. As a part of his Masters in Carbon Management his research was on the economic impacts of the UK Government's Carbon Reduction Commitment legislation. Som also holds an Environmental Engineering degree and Postgraduate diploma in Environmental law from National Law School of India University. In January 2012, Som set up the Carbon Masters India office in Bangalore and has since been working to establish Carbon Masters as leading carbon management experts in India. He has evaluated several low carbon technology solutions that will help Indian companies to reduce their carbon emissions and save costs. Som is currently working with a major Telecom Infrastructure provider to reduce their diesel consumption & carbon footprint from their 500 Telecom towers in India.
Jorge is a native of Ecuador and has a background in Mechanical Engineering. He studied for an International MBA in Barcelona, Spain in 2008 and the Carbon Management programme at Edinburgh University in 2009. Since returning to Ecuador, Jorge has worked for the Ecuadorian Government in their International Investment office, encouraging foreign investment in Ecuador. He has also provided strategic consulting advice to two Australian mining companies. Jorge currently acts as a Business Development Associate for Carbon Masters. Jorge has a passion for helping companies tackle climate change and since joining Carbon Masters has tapped into his extensive network of professional and personal contacts help build the Carbon Masters brand in Latin America.
